Bowman M101

Back »

This is one of the Holy Grail’s or British Toy Steam; a classic Geoffrey Bowman-Jenkins –  M101

The M101 is Bowman's metal-based version of this model, while the E101 had a wooden base. The obvious difference for model steam enthusiasts is the green metal base plate, which is conveniently drilled to fit Meccano, making it easy to bolt on other toy steam accessories for this unit to power.

The 1925 - 1936 Bowman 101 is by far the largest model Bowman ever made. The flywheel is an inch-thick disc of solid brass, and weighs a pound. The single oscillating cylinder has a 1-inch stroke, and when it’s in full steam it takes some real stopping. Bowman ads of the day claimed that this engine could directly drive a sewing machine!
