Burnac Vulcan Stationary Steam Engine 1946 - 1947

A quite rare British Vertical steam engine; made by Brunac Ltd of Burslem, Stoke-in-Trent produced between 1946 and 1949.

They can be found in two distinct configurations, the all brass and the brass/copper mix. They have an unusually thick gauge boiler and burner housing which is 9" tall mounted on a circular heavy cast mazak base 3.75" in diameter. The boiler end cap; cylinder and other fittings are made from brass, and can be found with different sight glass covers with some having distinct Bing style cover’s. The boiler is built around a centre flue and the speed control is done via a choke wheel on the exhaust block, with heat supplied in the form of a small twin wick burner.

Rumour has it that the boilers are actually surplus 40 mm Borfors AA shell casings, bought as army surplus after the war. When you feel the weigh of the engine and see the thickness of its boiler I’d like to think the story may be true. With reportedly only 30,00 of these well-built solid little engines ever produced, I think I will be hanging on to mine for a very long time, they're a real piece of our British Toy Steam heritage.
