Mastrand 1950

Near the end of the 1950s Eric Malins came across this little Mastrand Steam Roller in a Gamages catalogue, this was to later become the inspiration for Mamod's first mobile - the SR1 Steam Roller.

These rollers date from after WWII and were made by S.K.H. Toys in Aston Clinton, Bucks. They seem to come in two types; a MK1 and MK2 or early and late Mastrand if you like.

They are identified by the colour, which is two different greens, and the type of material the firebox is made from. It seems the earliest ones had a brown tinplate firebox, and the later ones like mine had unpainted aluminium ones. They were available as the Mastrand brand and under a different brand name as a Kit to build up. Production seemed to stop sometime in the early 19 60’s.
